LONDON: Tens of thousands of people across the United Kingdom staged protest demonstrations on Saturday as part of a “Day of Action” against the resumption of Israel’s new assault on the Gaza Strip after a seven-day pause in war, organizers stated.

“Israel’s decision to restart its bombing of Gaza soars in the face of global law, which forbids collective punishment and assaults on civilian people,” stated Ben Jamal, the director of the Palestine Solidarity Campaign — one of the coordinators of the countrywide call. He said that every humanitarian organization on the ground has suggested that the scale of destruction already wrought by Israel has pushed the Gaza Strip to the brink of disaster, where deaths from illness and lack of medical services could surpass the current casualty figures.

More than 193 Palestinian people have been killed since the truce ended on Friday, health officials in Gaza said, saying over 15,000 Palestinian people have been killed since the start of the fight between Hamas and Israel after a surprise attack on Oct. 7 in Israel.

“People across the United Kingdom will come out again to demonstrate the vast majority of them support a long-term truce, they will express their solidarity with the people of Palestine who are experiencing intolerable suffering, (and) they will demand the root reasons are not forgotten — Israel’s decades-long military occupation of Palestinian territories and its mechanism of apartheid against Palestinian people..

Ben Jamal said that they demanded justice for Palestinians and their right to self-determination and to live in dignity, freedom, and with equality.

PSC has arranged weekly national marches and protests in London since the war started, some of which organizers said drew about 800,000 people and was among the country biggest protests in history. The next national march will be held on Dec. 9.
