MOSCOW: Russian investigators have said that they had recovered ten bodies and flight recorders from the site of a plane crash assumed to have killed Wagner boss Yevgeny Prigozhin just two days ago, Western media reported on Friday.

AFP reported that a probe is underway into what caused plane’s crash, which came exactly 60-day after Wagner’s rebellion against Russian military leadership.

“In the passage of initial probe, the dead bodies of 10 people were found at the scene of the airplane crash,” Russian Investigative Committee said in a statement via social media.

It added that the molecular genetic analyses of the dead bodies are being conducted to establish the identities of the victims, saying that “flight recorders” were also found.

Since the crash reported many Western nations and Moscow critics have speculated the Wagner boss could have been assassinated. However, the Kremlin termed the incident “tragic” and also rejected speculations of likely foul play as a “total lie”.

Russian authorities said they had also opened an investigation into violations of air traffic regulations, but have been silent regarding what may have caused the crash.
