Tehran Reacts to Martyrdom of Ismail Haniyeh

TEHRAN: Iran has expressed condolences over the martyrdom of Ismail Haniyeh to the proud nation of Palestine, Hamas and countries supporting the Palestinian cause.

In a statement, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nasser Kan’ani said that the investigation into the details of this incident by the relevant institutions of Iran is underway. He said, “The martyrdom of brother Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran will strengthen the deep bond between Iran and Palestine.

Earlier, Iranian media cited the IRGC as saying that Ismail Haniyeh and one of his bodyguards were martyred when their residence was attacked in Tehran.

“With condolences to the heroic nation of Palestine and the Islamic nation and the combatants of the Resistance Front and Iran, this morning the house of Dr. Ismail Haniyeh, the head of the political office of the Islamic Resistance of Hamas, was attacked in Tehran, and after this incident, he and one of his bodyguards were martyred,” the statement said.

Hamas has vowed to take revenge following its political bureau chief Ismail Haniyeh was assassinated in Tehran. In a statement, the group said Haniyeh “passed away as a result of a treacherous Zionist attack,”.

It said that the Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas mourns the sons of our great Palestinians, and Islamic nation, and all the free people of the world.  Mousa Abu Marzook, a member of Hamas’ political bureau condemned the assassination as a “cowardly action” that would not go unanswered.
