PARIS: In the latest incident of school violence in France, a 15-year-old teenager was severely beaten in the town of Viry-Châtillon, located south of Paris, and subsequently rushed to the hospital following a cardiac arrest.

This alarming incident, which occurred on Thursday afternoon, has reignited concerns surrounding safety in French schools amidst a backdrop of heightened tensions.

The attack, described as an attempted murder and gang assault by the public prosecutor’s office, involved several assailants who targeted the teenager as he left school. The severity of the assault resulted in the victim experiencing cardiorespiratory arrest, requiring urgent medical attention at Necker hospital in Paris.

Jean-Marie Vilain, the mayor of Viry-Châtillon, condemned the perpetrators, referring to them as “the worst kind of thugs” and lamenting the increasing prevalence of extreme violence in society. Psychological support will be extended to both students and faculty members of the victim’s school, as announced by Vilain.

The incident in Viry-Châtillon follows closely after another violent attack earlier in the week in Montpellier, where a teenage girl was left seriously injured after being assaulted outside her school. Three individuals, including a fellow student, have been arrested in connection with the attack.

Amidst these disturbing episodes, authorities in France have reported receiving numerous threats targeting schools across the country, underscoring the urgent need for comprehensive measures to address and prevent such acts of violence within educational institutions.
