LONDON: Conflicting reports have emerged over pop superstar Taylor Swift and NFL star Travis Kelce’s upcoming wedding, with sources offering differing accounts of whether the couple plans a lavish celebration or a private family affair.

The couple, both 35, announced their engagement in August 2025, sparking a wave of speculation among fans over what many have dubbed the “American royal wedding.”

Swift and Kelce began dating in 2023 and confirmed their relationship on social media in 2024.

Reports of a ‘private ceremony’

Earlier this month, Radar Online reported that Swift and Kelce were planning “a private ceremony that will include family and just a few friends.”

A source quoted by the outlet said, “Taylor and Travis like to go big or go home, but when it comes to their wedding, less is more. The ceremony will be perfect.”

Friends of the couple reportedly told the publication that the wedding would take place in summer 2026 at Swift’s $17 million waterfront mansion in Rhode Island.

Kelce proposed to Swift in the backyard of his Leawood, Kansas estate after two years of dating, presenting a diamond ring valued at around $1 million, according to reports.

The couple shared photos of the moment on social media with the caption: “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married.”

Swift says ‘go big or go home’

However, in a separate interview with Irish television host Graham Norton, Swift suggested a much larger event was being planned.

When Norton asked if she and Kelce would wed in 2026, Swift replied with a laugh, “Oh, you’ll know.”

Pressed on whether the wedding would be a major affair, Swift joked, “I was going to invite you to it.” When Norton replied that such an invite meant it must be a big event, Swift added: “It’s huge.”

The Grammy-winning artist told Fox News Digital that she views the wedding as a “celebration of love” for everyone who has been part of her “journey.”

“Taylor Swift is one very canny operator — developing her fan base, working incredibly hard, and cementing a friendship with the future king Prince William over 10 years ago,” a source told the outlet.

The report added that Prince William and Princess Kate are among those likely to receive invitations, after attending one of Swift’s Eras Tour shows in London in 2024.

Changing plans and media speculation

In early September, Page Six cited an unnamed insider claiming that Swift and Kelce were leaning toward a “low-key” wedding, described as “more casual than people think.”

However, subsequent reports and Swift’s own remarks suggest a shift toward what some have called a “wedding of the century.”

Swift told Norton that smaller weddings often lead to tension over guest lists. “I think the only stressful weddings are the ones where you have a small amount and people are on the bubble,” she said. “I’m not going to do that.”

Family support

Swift’s father, Scott Swift, recently appeared alongside her at a Kansas City Chiefs game against the Las Vegas Raiders on 19 October, where the Chiefs won 31–0.

According to social media posts, the pair watched the game from one of the stadium’s VIP boxes.

Scott Swift underwent quintuple bypass heart surgery in June, during which Kelce reportedly supported the family.

“Trav was hanging with him the other day,” Swift recalled during an appearance on Kelce’s New Heights podcast in August.

Swift told SiriusXM’s The Morning Mashup in early October that her father had made a strong recovery. “He’s doing so great,” she said. “By his own account, he’s at 150 percent now. He’s got too much energy.”

Reflecting on the experience, Swift added, “The biggest part of our summer was, as a family, taking care of him and getting him back to his old self. It recontextualises what matters to you.”
