TASHKENT: The city of Tashkent in Uzbekistan is set to host the second International Forum on “Implementing Best Practices in Poverty Reduction” at the Hilton Tashkent City Hotel on Thursday. The forum aims to discuss effective strategies for eradicating poverty and share the achievements of Uzbekistan in poverty reduction, with a focus on expanding this knowledge to developing countries.
Organized by the Center for Economic Research and Reforms (CERR) in collaboration with the Ministry of Employment and Poverty Reduction of Uzbekistan, the forum is supported by the United Nations Development Programme in Uzbekistan and the United Nations Children’s Fund.
Approximately 200 delegates are expected to participate in the forum, including experts from various organizations such as J-PAL, UN, UNDP, ILO, World Bank, UNICEF, ADB, AFD, GIZ, GGGI, and more.
The presence of distinguished figures like Abhijit Banerjee, Nobel laureate and co-founder of J-PAL, James Foster, Economics Professor at George Washington University, and Sabina Alkire, Director of the Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative, will add significant value to the discussions.
Prominent attendees will also include Shixin Chen, Vice-President of the Asian Development Bank, Anna Bjerde, Vice-President of the World Bank for Europe and Central Asia, Consuelo Vidal Brus, UN Resident Coordinator in Uzbekistan, Munir Mammadzade, Head of the UNICEF Office in Uzbekistan, Marco Mantovanelli, Head of the World Bank in Uzbekistan, Liu Junwen, Director-General of the International Poverty Reduction Center in China, and Jiang Tianbao, Vice Director of the National Rural Revitalization Administration of China.
Representatives from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Tajikistan, and diplomatic corps will also be in attendance.
Forum to review strategies for poverty reduction
The primary objective of the forum is to examine global best practices and strategies for poverty reduction, identify priority areas for future joint research, and emphasize an integrated and comprehensive approach to addressing multidimensional poverty, social protection, and skill development in the labor market.
Additionally, the forum will focus on supporting small enterprises, enhancing access to quality education, and sharing Uzbekistan’s achievements in poverty reduction to benefit other developing countries.
The event will feature the signing of several cooperation agreements and the adoption of a joint communique, including the signing of a collaborative action program between the Center for Economic Research and Reforms and J-PAL.
The 2nd International Forum on Poverty Reduction promises to be a significant platform for knowledge-sharing and collaborative efforts in the global fight against poverty.
