KABUL: A raid conducted by the Taliban on a rebel hideout in northern Afghanistan resulted in the deaths of eight fighters from the National Resistance Front, including a commander named Akmal Amiri, according to the Defense Ministry.
The operation was carried out by the 313 Central Corps in Salang district, Parwan province, which borders Panjshir and Kabul.
The National Resistance Front, comprised of former security personnel from the previous Western-backed government, retreated to a remote and mountainous valley in Panjshir province after the Taliban overran the country and seized power in August 2021.
Along with another group, the Afghanistan Freedom Front, the NRF vowed to fight the Taliban.

During the raid, fighters recovered a rocket-propelled grenade, Kalashnikov, pickaxes, and other rifles, and night vision binoculars.
The Defense Ministry said that the operation was necessary to prevent harm to the security and well-being of the Afghan people.
Ali Maisam Nazary, head of foreign relations at the NRF, paid warm tribute to the slain commander and denounced the military operation.
“Every blood drop of the martyrs of the Afghan people’s resistance will irrigate the rightful roots of the demand for dignity, freedom and justice and take us closer to victory,” he said in a tweet.
The Taliban has been consolidating its power across Afghanistan since taking over in August and has faced resistance from various groups.
The security situation in Afghanistan remains volatile and uncertain as the Taliban continues to assert its authority while facing opposition from groups like the National Resistance Front.
