KABUL: The Afghan Taliban publicly flogged a woman in Balkh province of Afghanistan on Sunday, accusing her of adultery. The incident took place in Mazar-i-Sharif, where dozens of Taliban officials and a large gathering of residents assembled to witness the punishment.

According to a statement released by the Taliban, the woman received 35 lashes as a form of punishment administered in front of the crowd. This event marks one of many public floggings conducted by the Taliban across Afghanistan in recent days.

Over the past ten days alone, the Taliban has reportedly subjected 37 persons to public lashings in various provinces. Since taking control of the country nearly three years ago, hundreds of people have faced similar punishments in public, based on charges ranging from adultery to other moral offenses as defined by the Taliban administration.

The use of corporal punishment by the Taliban has drawn widespread condemnation from global human rights organizations and the United Nations.
