ISLAMABAD/KABUL: Taliban armed forces killed three members of the militant Daesh group in Kabul during an overnight raid, a Taliban spokesman said on Wednesday.
According to Arab News, the regional affiliate of the extremist Daesh group known as the Islamic State (IS) in Khorasan Province has been the key rival of the Taliban since their takeover of Afghanistan in 2021.
According to Taliban government, spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid the operation on Tuesday targeted a Daesh hideout in Kabul. He said that the Taliban forced killed three prominent members of Daesh who were plotting attacks during the holy month of Ramazan.
Daesh members used hideout to carry out attacks on Kabul
“The Daesh militants used the hideout to carry out attacks in Kabul and were planning to hit religious points and civilians in the holy month of Ramazan,” Mujahid said.
The Taliban swept across Afghanistan in mid-August 2021, seizing power as the United States and NATO forces withdrew after twenty years of a failed war.
The world community has not recognised the Taliban government, wary of their harsh measures since their takeover — including restricting rights and freedoms, especially for women and minorities.
