KABUL: The Supreme Court Afghanistan run by Taliban on Thursday announced that a woman in Kandahar was publicly flogged for running away from home.
The court in a statement said the woman received “39 lashes” and was also sentenced to two and a half years in jail.
The statement also stated that two men in Maidan Wardak province were publicly flogged on charges of theft. On Wednesday, the Taliban flogged a man and a woman for inappropriate relationship.
Since taking over Afghanistan, the Taliban have resumed flogging and stoning as punishments, starting in December 2022. The implementation of corporal punishment has been strongly condemned by the global community and human rights organizations.
