KABUL: Pakistan’s Special Envoy for Afghanistan, Asif Durrani, has confirmed that the Taliban authorities have formulated a “comprehensive plan” to counteract the activities of the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) within Afghanistan.
Pakistan’s Special Envoy Asif Durrani met with Afghanistan’s Acting Foreign Minister, Amir Muttaqi, along with senior Taliban security officials in Kabul to discuss the security situation. The primary focus of this high-level meeting was to address the issue of the TTP, a group that has long been a cause of concern for Pakistan due to its alleged use of Afghan territory for activities against Pakistan.
During the discussions, Asif Durrani emphasized Pakistan’s serious concerns regarding the TTP’s presence and actions within Afghanistan’s borders. In response, the Taliban reportedly pledged to implement concrete measures to restrict TTP activities on Afghan soil.
Pakistan and Afghanistan to Enhance Security Measures Along Border
Asif Durrani elaborated on the progress made during the meeting, stating, “Both nations are also formulating a plan to enhance security measures along the border regions, which will be an ongoing effort.” This suggests that Pakistan and Afghanistan are working together to bolster security in areas adjoining their shared border.
This marks Asif Durrani’s second visit to Afghanistan, with his previous trip taking place in July, during which he engaged in discussions with various Taliban officials.
The development is significant given Pakistan’s repeated expressions of deep concern over what it perceives as the “threat of TTP activities in Afghanistan” to Pakistan’s security.
