KABUL: Afghan Taliban-run administration on Saturday issued directives to foreign and local NGOs to stop women employees from coming to work. The ministry of economy has issued a letter in this regard, Reuters reported.
Letter to NGOs
Economy ministry spokesperson Abdulrahman Habib confirmed the letter and said that women employees were not permitted to work until the next order. He said that many did not act as per authorities’ instructions regarding the dress code for women.
Earlier, the Afghan Taliban ordered universities to close to females, prompting a strong world reaction and sparking heavy protests and criticism in Afghanistan.
It is not immediately clear whether or not the order applied to UN agencies. Responding to a question, Habib said that the order applied to NGOs working under the country’s body known as ACBAR.
