Tajik President Emomali Rahmon Concludes Two-day Visit to Pakistan

ISLAMABAD: Tajikistan President Emomali Rahmon left for his country on Thursday after concluding his two-day official visit to Pakistan.

During the visit, Pakistan and Tajikistan agreed on cementing bilateral ties and to raise it to strategic cooperation. It was decided that a bilateral Strategic Partnership Agreement will be inked at the earliest, and its modalities would be finalized during the intervening period before Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s visit to Dushanbe, the Foreign Office said in a statement.

The Tajik President Emomali held a comprehensive delegation-level meeting with the prime minister Sharif, discussing wide-ranging issues. The PM also hosted a banquet in honor of the visiting dignitary.

Moreover, he held meetings with Federal Minister of Defense Khwaja Muhammad Asif and Chairman Senate Muhammad Sadiq Sanjrani.

Agreements, MoUs signed during visit

Several agreements and Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) in the areas of transit trade, industry and new technologies, cooperation in education, combating trafficking in narcotics, cooperation between customs authorities, establishment of electronic data interchange and collaboration in research in the field of water resources.

The two sides reiterated their commitment to complete connectivity projects like CASA-1000 to be able of opening new avenues for future energy corridors. 

Pakistan assured the visiting dignitary that it will support Tajikistan’s membership bid in Quadrilateral Traffic in Transit Agreement (QTTA). The current members of QTTA are China, Pakistan, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.

Pakistan also expressed support for Tajikistan’s membership in Quadrilateral Traffic in Transit Agreement (QTTA).
