TAIPEI, Taiwan: Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te warned that China’s authoritarian ambitions extend beyond Taiwan, urging democratic nations to unite against Beijing’s expansionism.
Speaking at the Ketagalan Forum on Indo-Pacific security in Taipei, Lai emphasized that Taiwan is not the only target of China’s economic and military pressures.
He argued that China seeks to alter the international order, posing a threat to regional peace and stability. Lai, who has been labeled a “dangerous separatist” by Beijing for defending Taiwan’s sovereignty, highlighted China’s increasing military activities, including joint exercises with Russia in key maritime regions.
He stressed the need for democratic countries to take collective action to counter China’s growing influence and protect the rules-based international order.
