LAHORE: Chairman Pakistan Ulema Council Muhammad Tahir Mahmood Ashrafi has said those who betrayed and harmed their motherland should be hanged at Minar-i-Pakistan.
Addressing an interfaith harmony conference, followed by media talk on Saturday, Ashrafi said traitors like Captain Mehdi and Adil Raja had lesser sentences of 12 and 14 12 years respectively. “It has been many months since the incident of May 9 occurred, but they are not even allowing military courts or punishing the accused,” he lamented.
Ashrafi Seeks Exemplary Punishment for Traitors
Tahir Ashrafi further said that the imprisonment announced for Adil Raja and Captain Mehdi (14 and 12 years, respectively) by the courts is not enough punishment for those who betrayed their homeland, soil, and religion. He demanded that such people should be hanged at Minar-i-Pakistan.
He lamented that the country gave fame, name, and recognition to such people, but in return, they became traitors. “We all sitting here have seen the devastation in Jinnah House during the events of May 9. Many months passed, but the perpetrators have not been punished.”
