KOLKATA: Co-hosts and reigning champions India secured the final semi-final berth in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 with a commanding five-wicket win over West Indies in a crucial Super Eights clash at Eden Gardens on Sunday.
The result — India’s second victory in the Super Eights stage — saw them finish second in Group 1 with four points from three matches. Their advancement simultaneously ended the campaign of two-time champions West Indies, who dropped to third place with two points.
By finishing as runners-up in the group, India have set up a meeting with fellow two-time champions England in the second semi-final, scheduled for March 5 at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium.
The first semi-final will take place on March 4 at Eden Gardens, where New Zealand will face South Africa.
Final
The winners of the two last-four contests will then compete in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium on March 8.
Of the four teams remaining, New Zealand and South Africa are still in pursuit of their maiden T20 World Cup title. India and England, meanwhile, have the chance to claim a record third championship and become the most successful side in the tournament’s history.
South Africa head into the semi-finals as the only unbeaten team in the competition, having extended their winning streak with a five-wicket triumph over Zimbabwe in their final Super Eights fixture earlier on Sunday in New Delhi.
The confirmed line-up also leaves open the prospect of a repeat of the 2024 T20 World Cup final, which saw India take on South Africa in Barbados.
