WASHINGTON: Wireless international carrier T-Mobile on Thursday said it has been selected by the US Navy to provide communication technology as part of a $2.67 billion Spiral 4 contract for the next ten years.

The development comes at a time when telecom providers are struggling with a slow wireless market and stiff competition.

According to T-Mobile, the contract will enable all Defence agencies of the US to place orders for wireless services and equipment from the tech company.

The contract includes data, voice, fixed wireless solutions, Internet of things and mobility management solutions and provides connectivity for government activities.

T-Mobile said the government agencies can also leverage the company’s partnership with Elon Musk’s SpaceX. SpaceX launched the StarLink satellite in January with a wireless network and direct-to-cell technology and provided by T-Mobile.
