ISLAMABAD: Federal Health Minister on Saturday said land will be acquired from the National Institute of Health (NIH) for the expansion of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Medical University (SZABMU).
Federal Health Minister Abdul Qadir Patel met the Chairman of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) in his office and expressed his firm determination to make medical education in line with international standards.
He said that SZABMU is a top-level university and achieved a prominent position in a few years. “In the last two years, the university has started ten new programs, and a total of around 45 programs are being offered along with newly started MPhil and Ph.D. programs in Basic Science,” he said.
He stated that they need land for the expansion of the university so that other major programs could be started and the land will be taken from NIH for expansion of the university. He also urged the HEC to support them to raise the standard of higher education in clinical sciences and assured all kinds of full cooperation to improve the quality of higher education.
SZABMU establishment
SZABMU Islamabad was established on 21st March 2013. Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) Islamabad is the Teaching Hospital of the University.
The School of Dentistry and the Federal Medical College are the Constituent Medical and Dental Colleges of the University. There are over 20 Medical, Nursing, Dental, and Allied Health Sciences Institutions in the Federal Capital Territory affiliated with SZABMU.
