ISLAMABAD: Speakers hailed veteran iconic leader of the Kashmir freedom movement, Syed Ali Gilani, for his struggle for the Kashmir cause resistance against the Indian illegal occupation and injustice.
Th seminar was organized by the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Jamaat-e-Islami at the Islamabad office to commemorate the second anniversary of the martyrdom of Syed Ali Gilani. The seminar was attended by notable figures, including Ameer JI-AJK, Dr. Mushtaq Ahmad, senior APHC-AJK leader, Ghulam Muhammad Safi, APHC-AJK Convener, Mahmood Ahmad Saghar, APHC-AJK General Secretary, Sheikh Abdul Mateen, and others.
They said that Syed Ali Gilani, who entered Kashmiri politics in the 1950s, engaged in a nonviolent political struggle for the resolution of the Kashmir conflict for 37 years. However, he eventually realized that India, the so-called holder of the largest democracy in the world, would not allow Kashmiris to exercise their unalienable right to self-determination through democratic processes.
Despite numerous challenges and hardships, Syed Ali Gilani demonstrated extraordinary determination and courage, steadfastly adhering to his principles. He held true to his belief in connecting the political destiny of Kashmiris with Pakistan, in line with the Two-Nation Theory, until the end of his life.
Syed Ali Gilani’s Legacy of Kashmiri Freedom
The speakers emphasized that Syed Ali Gilani’s legacy as a champion of Kashmiri freedom would continue to inspire future generations. He dedicated his life to freeing the Kashmiri people from Indian subjugation, undertaking an unparalleled struggle and displaying unwavering resilience.
The speakers also highlighted Syed Ali Gilani’s famous slogan, “We are Pakistanis, and Pakistan is ours,” which he coined under the watchful eyes of the Indian army, reaffirming his deep-rooted Pakistani identity. They emphasized that the central goal of Syed Ali Gilani’s lifelong struggle remained the success of the freedom movement, even as he endured years in prisons and concentration camps and suffered physical and mental torment.
Despite all the cruelties and oppression, he never wavered in his demand for self-determination for his oppressed people.
