ISLAMABAD: Sydney Thunder have extended their congratulations to Pakistan star all-rounder Shadab Khan following his selection in Pakistan’s squad for the T20I series against Sri Lanka in January 2026.
The franchise confirmed his availability timeline, ensuring he will rejoin the Big Bash League (BBL) side for the business end of the season.
Departure and return schedule confirmed
Thunder spokesperson confirmed that Shadab, currently featuring in the BBL, will depart for national duty after the team’s clash against the Hobart Hurricanes on January 4. His return is locked in for the marquee Sydney Smash at the Sydney Cricket Ground on January 16. Notably, the franchise confirmed his availability will extend through the entirety of the BBL finals should the Thunder qualify.

Shadab has been a key performer for the Thunder this season, emerging as their leading wicket-taker with six scalps while also contributing 100 runs at an average of 33.33. Reacting to his Pakistan selection, Shadab expressed honour and excitement.
“It’s always an honour to represent Pakistan,” he said, describing his time with the Thunder as “fantastic.” He added his eagerness to return, stating, “I hope to come back towards the end of the season and help the team stay in the race for the final.”
