ISLAMABAD: The Higher Education Commission has said that the Swiss government has announced the “Excellence Scholarship for Pakistani students” for the academic year 2024-25.
Each year, the Swiss Confederation awards Excellence Scholarships to promote international exchange and research cooperation between Switzerland and more than other nations.
The research scholarship (research fellowship, Ph.D., Post doctorate) is available to post-graduate researchers in any subject who hold a master’s degree is the minimum qualification required and are planning to come to Switzerland to pursue further studies or research at the doctoral or post-doctoral level.
The awards are aimed at providing education opportunities to budding researchers from abroad who have completed a master’s degree or PhD, as well as foreign artists holding a bachelor’s degree.
The recipients are selected by the awarding institution, the Federal Commission for Scholarships for Foreign Students.
The prospective applicants can study in the categories including 1-year Research after a Masters, three-year Ph.D. after Masters, and 1-year Post Doctorate.

The Federal Commission for Scholarships for Foreign Students would assess the short-listed applications which make the final decision.
The FCS assesses scholarship applications according to 3 criteria, including candidate profile, research project’s quality or artistic work and synergies, and potential for future research cooperation.
Scholarship Opportunities for GB Students
Moreover, HEC has also announced a Scholarship Program for students of Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) to study in leading national universities or institutions.
The applications have been invited from outstanding students of GB who intend to pursue undergraduate studies (4/5 years BS programs) from HEC-recognized public sector universities and degree-awarding institutions.
The scholarships are being provided for the academic year 2023-24 in all fields of study or disciplines.
The applicants must have a domicile or local certificate of GB and have completed a Higher Secondary School Certificate or Equivalent.
The applicants who are already availing of any other scholarship opportunity are not eligible to apply while the maximum age limit is twenty-two years as of the closing date of application submission. The candidates will have to fulfill HEC and university criteria for admission to BS programs.
The scholarship will cover tuition fees, hostel fees, and other charges-maximum 240,000 rupees per year, a stipend of 15,000 rupees per month, and books and traveling allowances of 30,000 rupees per annum.
