OUAGADOUGOU: Five army volunteers, five women, and a man have been killed in militants attacks in eastern Burkina Faso over the last 2 days, local and security sources said on Tuesday.
The women lost their lives on Monday when the body-trapped body of a man killed the day before exploded in the central-eastern area of Burkina, where extremist attacks are frequent, several local people said.
A local official told AFP by telephone that the young man and 3 friends had been intercepted by terrorists in Bagmoussa village on Sunday.
He said that three managed to escape, but unluckily the fourth was killed by the terrorists.
On Monday morning, village women were burying the dead body of a man only to explode.
Four women died on the spot while four others were seriously injured,” a villager said. One of them later died.
Military operation in Eastern Burkina Faso
He said the attack came several days after a military operation in the area killed dozens of terrorists.
A local official for the VDP volunteer militia said five soldiers of the civilian force had died on Monday in a clash near Ougarou, Gourma province. Two more persons had been injured.
He said some attackers had been killed in the VDP retaliation. – AFP
