ATHENS: Most French people are of the view that tickets for the Paris 2024 Olympics are too expensive, a survey showed Sunday.
Some 82 percent of the respondents said that tickets for the games were “inaccessible in terms of price,” according to the survey by the Odoxa polling group.
Meanwhile, 79% of the respondants maintained that obtaining seats for Olympic events and games was too complicated, it said. 69% still supported the Olympics being held in the country, with 65% of the view that the games would contribute positively to the French economy.
It is to be noted that 72% of those polled in favour of the participation of Russian athletes, though over 40% of them maintained they should compete under a “neutral banner.”
Paris Olympics Organisers’ pledge
Organisers of Paris Olympics have pledged a million tickets at 24 euros ($25) and nearly half at under 50 euros, however the difficulty in obtaining tickets at these cut-prices appears to be the reason for the public frustration.
Neitizens on social media have denounced prices of up to 690 euros for a place at the games, as well as a lack of availability to attend sports events such as fencing and climbing that were quickly sold out.
Around three million tickets were put on sale in the first phase, with another seven million to be available in another two rounds. — APP
