PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has witnessed a notable increase in terrorism incidents this year, particularly in seven areas near the Pak-Afghan border.
According to statistics released by the Department of Interior and Tribal Affairs Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the most affected regions include Peshawar, Khyber, Bajaur, Tank, Dera Ismail Khan, North Waziristan, and South Waziristan.
The official documents reveal that a total of 1,050 terrorism incidents occurred in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa this year.
Among these, 419 incidents took place in the arranged districts, and 631 occurred in the merged districts. Peshawar recorded 61 incidents, while North Waziristan had the highest with 201 incidents, followed by 169 in Khyber, 121 in South Waziristan, 98 in Dera Ismail Khan, 62 in Bajaur, and 61 in Tank.
The human toll of these incidents is significant, with 470 security personnel and civilians losing their lives in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa this year. Peshawar, in particular, witnessed 106 security personnel casualties. Other affected areas include Bajaur (4 security personnel), Khyber (28), North Waziristan (36), South Waziristan (29), Dera Ismail Khan (21), and Tank (13).
Civilians also bore the brunt of terrorism, with 73 civilian casualties, most notably in Bajaur (28), North Waziristan (6), Dera Ismail Khan (5), Tank (7), and smaller numbers in Peshawar and Khyber.
Over the past three years, a total of 1,823 terrorism incidents were reported in the region, resulting in the loss of 698 lives among security personnel and civilians.
