ISLAMABAD: An application has been submitted to the Supreme Court of Pakistan seeking the removal of President Dr. Arif Alvi on the grounds of showing partiality and committing misconduct.
Ghulam Murtaza filed the petition under Section 3 of Article 184 of the Constitution, naming both the President and the Law Ministry as parties in the case.
The petitioner alleges that Dr. Arif Alvi abused his presidential powers and disrespected the office by unlawfully dissolving the national assembly. He also claims that the President failed to ensure the implementation of the Constitution as mandated by Article 5.
President Accused of Partiality
Furthermore, the petitioner states that the President showed partiality by not signing the Official Secret Act and Army Act. In his petition, he asserts that Dr. Arif Alvi also failed to fulfill his responsibility by not announcing the election date.
It is pertinent to mention here that a prior petition seeking the disqualification of President Dr. Arif Alvi was dismissed by the Supreme Court. The two-member bench, led by Justice Ijazul Ahsan, presided over the case where the petitioner Zahoor Mehdi sought the rejection of President Alvi’s nomination papers.
