ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court has directed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan to submit his response to the federal government’s plea seeking contempt of court proceedings against Imran Khan.

Supreme Court heard Government’s petition seeking contempt of court proceedings against PTI’s head

The federal government via the interior ministry had filed a petition for starting contempt of court proceedings against Imran Khan for violating May 25 order, wherein the Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) was restricted from staging its long-march near the H-9 and G-9 areas of Islamabad. The Supreme Court of Pakistan larger bench heard the case today.

During the proceeding, the chief justice of the apex court said the bench hoped the lawyer of Imran Khan would submit correct information and details. He said that the court is very conscious about exercising the contempt jurisdiction. Advocate Salman Aslam Butt counsel for the ministry of interior said that there are some things which could not be produced in the court room. He said that the court constituted a committee for this purpose. Salman Aslam Butt urged the court to pass directions for obtaining call direct records to verify that phones were functioning in the area on that day.

The CJP said that the court would hear arguments of PTI chief’s lawyer instead of the articles written in the papers. Salman Butt added that the question is whether or not mobiles were working on the container. On this, the CJP added that in this matter the court had to consider carefully before proceeding further. The case was adjourned for one week after the proceedings. APP
