Sunak Stresses Need to Minimize Civilian Casualties in Gaza

LONDON: British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has stressed upon the need of taking all possible measures to minimize civilian casualties in Gaza, Western media reported on Tuesday.

He expressed these views during a call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

A statement from Downing Street said the Prime Minister emphased the importance of taking all possible measures to minimize civilian casualties in the area.

According to the statement he also discussed the situation in the West Bank and the long-term goal of a two-state solution.

It further said the Prime Minister underscored the importance of all sides to avoid such actions that inflame tensions while hoping a more secure and prosperous future for both Israelis and Palestinians.

Sunak discusses humanitarian crisis in Gaza with Mahmoud Abbas

Meanwhile the British prime minister also spoke with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and discussed the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.

A separate Downing Street statement said the UK prime minister voiced his support for diplomatic action to protect Palestinian civilians and prevent wider escalation.

Hamas-run health ministry has said that at least 8,525 people had been killed in Israeli bombardment including over 3,500 children.
