KARACHI: Nationwide heavy monsoon rains continued to lash various areas without any respite as 290 mm rain in Sukkur broke 77 years old record, inundating nearby low-lying areas. Similarly, nonstop rains in Larkana, Qaziabad as well as Jacobabad swept many areas, wreaking havoc in various areas. Karachi has also received downpours which continued for long hours, leaving residents to fend for themselves amid difficulties caused by rainwater.
Land-sliding in Gojal, Astore, Hunza, and Ghizer destroyed around 20 houses, leaving many tourists stranded. Many roads and streets were closed for traffic following heavy rains and pluvial floods. In Balochistan, National Highway N-40 could not be reopened for traffic following two days whereas Kohlu, Bolan and Awaran districts received intense showers, inundating low-lying regions and making life miserable for many residents.
Rains continued to disrupt routine work and activities in Koh-e-Suleman. Low-level floods in the mountainous region caused headache for the locals whereas a 20-feet sinkhole was created following downpour in Uch canal, Ahmedpur East. On the other hand, water level in Head Trimmu continued to rise because of heavy rain.
