ADEN: A suicide bomber killed 12 Yemeni soldiers in a military post in the Abyan province of Yemen on Friday, authorities said.
A spokesperson for the Southern Transitional Council, Mohamed Al-Naqib, said the attacker drove a car into a site for the security forces, in the Mudiyah district.
No group has so far claimed responsibility, but militants affiliated to Al Qaeda have stepped up attacks on military installations in Yemen.
Al Qaeda’s Yemeni branch has used a nine-year conflict in Yemen to bolster its influence in the country that is located near major shipping lanes.
The Southern Transitional Council which controls large parts of the southern Yemen has stepped up offensives against Al-Qaeda elements in Abyan over the past year.
