MOGADISHU: At least five people were killed and six others injured in a suicide attack in central Somalia on Friday, Western media reported.
According to police and witnesses a suicide bomber blew himself up in a restaurant near the presidential palace.
Somali police spokesman Sadik Dudishe told media that the attacker detonated a device inside a tea shop in Bar Bulsho neighborhood of Mogadishu.
He said that all those killed were spending time to drink tea in the cafe a known destination for members of the Somali security forces as well as civilians.
No group claims responsibility of the attack
No group has so far claimed responsibility of the attack.
The police have cordoned off the area after the blast and started an investigation.
Adan Qorey, a resident of the Bar Bulsho told media that the cafe was often crowded in the afternoon and evening.
The attack comes a day after five civilians were killed and 13 others wounded in a car bombing near a market in central Somalia.
The attacks have increased in recent days as Somalia’s government has admitted that it has suffered setbacks in the fight against the Al-Qaeda-linked Al-Shabaab militants.
Earlier on Thursday, Somali security forces foiled two car bomb attacks in Dhusamareeb town in central Somalia.
Al-Shabaab militant group is combating to overthrow the internationally-backed government in Mogadishu. The group controlled the capital until 2011 when it had to leave the area after facing a defeat from African Union troops.
