Sugar Mills to Provide Sugar at Low Price During Ramadan

LAHORE: The Pakistan Sugar Mills Association (PSMA) has agreed to provide sugar to consumers at a low price during the holy month of Ramadan.

A meeting was held in this regard between a PSMA delegation led by Chairman Chaudhry Zaka Ashraf and Caretaker Punjab Provincial Minister for Industries SM Tanveer, according to the Industries department’s spokesman on Sunday.

The sugar mills would ensure to provide sugar at low prices at sale points to be designated by the respective district administration. In a few days, the millers would decide on the amount of reduction in the commodity’s price. The supply of low-priced sugar would start one day before the start of Ramadan.

PSMA Chairman said that on the directives of the caretaker Punjab chief minister, cheap sugar would be given to people during the holy month of Ramadan, and the mechanism to supply sugar would be decided in consultation with relevant departments.

Ramadan package

Provincial Minister SM Tanveer said that the Punjab government was giving a historic Ramadan package this year. The supply of free flour to deserving families has begun, and the supply of cheap sugar would also greatly relieve people. He appreciated the sugar mills for supplying sugar cheaply to the public during Ramadan.

Provincial Secretary Food Muhammad Zaman, Director General Industries, and other concerned officers were also present, while the PSMA delegation included Imran Ahmed, Sohail Shehzad, Secretary General Sugar Mills Association, and others.

Meanwhile, Provincial Secretary of Industries and Commerce Ehsan Bhutta and Secretary of Livestock and Dairy Development Muhammad Masood Anwar jointly presided over a meeting with a Poultry Association of Pakistan delegation at the Punjab Industries Department.

The meeting reviewed prices of the poultry and supply chain during holy Ramadan. After detailed discussions, it was decided that the Punjab government would take up the matter with the federal government to allow the import of GMO soybean on a priority basis.
