ISLAMABAD: Using makeup is a daily routine for women, but not being careful in this regard can also damage the skin.

Renowned dermatologist Dr. Khurram Mushir said that there is a specific time for cosmetics products to be used, and using them more than that can damage the skin. He said that sponges and brushes used for makeup should be washed regularly and air-dried. If used unwashed, they accumulate bacteria, dust, and makeup residue, which can irritate and damage the skin. He added that mercury is used in makeup products, especially whitening creams, and long-term use can cause the mercury to react and damage the skin.

Permanent makeup

Talking about permanent makeup, he said that nowadays, beauty salons had introduced the trend of skin tinting and permanent changes in eyebrows or eyelashes, which women use without thinking. Pigmentation is used for permanently coloring the eyelids, lips, or cheeks into a pink color that lasts for a few months or years. He said that it is just like painting something; after some time, it becomes dull and sloppy, and the color gradually turns black, making a face look ugly.

Besides, such treatments also become the reason for the closure of the skin’s pores, due to which oxygen does not reach the skin properly. As a result, the skin starts to deteriorate, wrinkles start appearing on it, and sometimes, its texture becomes like sand. Doctor Khurram further said that natural products should be used to protect the skin, and quality beauty products should be used.
