SWAT: Tragedy struck in Swat district when a school student lost his life and six others sustained injuries in a firing incident near a school in the Sangota area on Tuesday.
According to police officials, the incident occurred when a rifle accidentally discharged in the hands of a police officer deployed for school security.
While the police attribute the incident to an accidental discharge, a local resident, requesting anonymity, claimed that the policeman deliberately opened fire on the children near the school. The witness further speculated that the officer might not have been mentally stable at the time of the incident.

Shortly after the incident, the policeman responsible for the firing was arrested and swiftly taken to the nearby police station.
Meanwhile, the injured students were immediately rushed to Saidu Sharif Hospital for initial medical assistance. Sadly, despite efforts to save him, one of the injured students succumbed to his injuries and tragically lost his life.
The incident has brought back memories of another horrific event in Swat, the targeted attack on Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yusafzai. Malala was shot by a Taliban gunman in an assassination attempt while she was attending school.
