TEHRAN: Officials said that at least three people were killed and more than 300 wounded in an earthquake hit northwest Iran on Saturday.
Iranian official news agency IRNA reported the death toll citing the officials of emergency services in the city of Khoy, near the earthquake’s epicenter.
Officials say rescue operation is underway

An earthquake with a magnitude of up to 5.9 struck the Iran-Turkey border area on Saturday, damaging homes in a Khoy city, Iran, the European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported.
Iran’s emergency services spokesman Mojtaba Khaledi said that the level of destruction of some buildings in Khoy city is high.
EMSC reported that the earthquake had a magnitude of 5.6. Iranian emergency officials told media that rescue teams rushed to the affected area and all hospitals were put on high alert in the city.

An emergency official said that it was snowing in some of the areas affected by the quake amid cold and that there was some power cuts.
