BEIRUT: Strikes hit south Beirut on Wednesday, less than an hour following the Israeli army ordered inhabitants to leave part of the Lebanese capital, AFP reported.
Black smoke billowed from between compounds in Haret Hreik following the first attack, which followed Israeli army spokesman Avichay Adraee telling people to leave the area.
Moments later AFP reported a second attack in south Beirut. The Israeli army has repeatedly bombarded south Beirut in recent days, as well as conducting deadly attacks elsewhere in the capital and across Lebanon.
Reports said that at least 1,356 people have been killed in Lebanon since Israel escalated its attacks last month, according to AFP.
Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron has reminded Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that Israel was created as a result of a resolution adopted by the United Nations, urging him to abide by the current UN resolutions.
“Netanyahu must not forget that his country was created by a decision of the UN,” Macron told the French cabinet, according to a source quoted by AFP.
The comments come as Israel presses forward with a ground offensive in southern Lebanon, where UN peacekeepers, including French troops, are stationed. Macron reiterated the need for Israel to comply with UN decisions.
