BERLIN, Germany: UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer noted the shift in the U.S. presidential race since Kamala Harris replaced Joe Biden as the Democratic Party’s nominee.

Biden, 81, withdrew five weeks ago, prompting Harris, 59, to energize her party and gain an edge over Republican candidate Donald Trump in recent polls. Starmer acknowledged Harris’s impact during a Press meeting in Berlin, where he met with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.

The Labour Party, traditionally allied with the Democrats, has shown clear support for Harris. London Mayor Sadiq Khan, a Labour member, openly supports the Democrats, highlighting the strong ties between the two parties.

However, Starmer remains neutral, emphasizing that the U.S. election outcome is up to American voters. He reassured that the UK would work with any elected U.S. president, maintaining the “special relationship” between the two nations.

The stance reflects a pragmatic approach, especially given the potential complications of a Trump presidency, as suggested by Starmer’s foreign minister, David Lammy.
