TEHRAN: Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister, Ali Sabry, extended an invitation to Iranian companies to invest and operate in Sri Lanka, expressing optimism about the future of Iran-Sri Lanka bilateral relations. During his first visit to Tehran since President Raeisi’s administration took office in August 2021, Sabry was warmly received by his Iranian counterpart, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.
The Sri Lankan Foreign Minister, during his visit from August 4th to August 7th, conveyed his country’s eagerness to welcome many Iranian ventures in Sri Lanka. He acknowledged the longstanding ties between the two nations and emphasized the potential for further development.
Sabry praised the resilience and strength of the Iranian people amidst external pressures and expressed satisfaction with the visit to Iran, stating that he should have come earlier. He also assured that Sri Lanka maintains a friendly foreign policy, considering itself a friend to all and an enemy to none.
Investment Opportunities in Sri Lanka
Highlighting Iran’s advancements in various fields, particularly in medicine, the Sri Lankan Foreign Minister underscored the ample investment opportunities available in his country. He encouraged Iranian businesses to explore Sri Lanka as a new investment destination.
The visit signaled a promising start for future collaborations between the two nations. Sabry noted that Sri Lanka, as the upcoming president of the Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) in 2023, presents a significant opportunity for a multipolar economic landscape in a world of multiple powers. He lauded Iran’s potential to play an important role in this regard.
Furthermore, Sabry emphasized the enduring support and non-interference in each other’s internal matters between Iran and Sri Lanka. Both countries share a strong history of mutual support regionally and internationally.
