LUCKNOW: Sri Lanka’s cricket team received a setback as captain Dasun Shanaka has been ruled out of the ongoing ICC World Cup due to a right thigh muscle injury sustained during Sri Lanka’s recent defeat to Pakistan.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) confirmed Shanaka’s injury and the subsequent need for a three-week recovery period, forcing him to withdraw from the tournament.
In response to Shanaka’s absence, the ICC approved Chamika Karunaratne to replace him in the Sri Lankan squad. Karunaratne, an experienced player with 23 One-Day Internationals (ODIs) under his belt, will step in to fill the void left by Shanaka.
Sri Lanka’s World Cup campaign has faced early challenges, with the team losing both of their opening matches. Their upcoming match against Australia in Lucknow on Monday poses a crucial opportunity for the team to bounce back and secure their first victory in the tournament.
