Squash Federation to Organize Men’s and Women’s Leagues
ISLAMABAD: Senior Vice President (SVP) of Pakistan Squash Federation (PSF) Air Marshal Amir Masood has said that the squash federation focused on young players and would be able to produce a champion in the next two to three years.
While talking to sports journalists here at Mushaf Squash Complex, PSF would also organize a women’s league and two to three foreign players would be included in each league team. “The league matches will be played in Karachi apart from Islamabad, “he added.
He further said, “Our vision is to invest in the game of squash. Junior players are being sent out for training and they are also working on a program to bring out new talent from schools and colleges so that young boys can come forward. We invited 250 to 300 boys to the camp. In Malaysia, our under-11 girl has achieved success. Belongs to Karachi,” he maintained.
To a question, he said, “Farhan Mehboob has maintained his fitness and he will also encourage young children along with playing in the team. The purpose of the squash league is to find new talent from the grassroots level. For this purpose, the camps are being organized at schools and colleges level, in the next two to three years Pakistani players will become Squash World Champions,” he hoped.
“Academies are already working in Abbottabad, Peshawar and Rawalpindi. Foreign trainers and foreign coaches were contacted but we believe that Pakistani coaches are the best, Pakistan Squash Federation hired the country’s number one coach Faheem Gul. He said that a professional squash league will be organized in Pakistan next year, six teams will be included in the league and two to three foreign players will be included in each league team,” he concluded.
It is pertinent to note that, Farhan Mehboob is a top Pakistani squash player who is currently ranked in the Professional Squash Association’s global list.
