SWISS CITY: At a seminar hosted by the International Muslim Women’s Union in collaboration with KIIR, AHRAAM, and other organizations, speakers highlighted the severe impact of the prolonged Kashmir dispute on Kashmiri women in the IIOJK, who are disproportionately affected by the violence.
The event, titled “Women in Conflicts,” took place in Geneva on Friday and featured prominent human rights activists, academicians, and international law experts from around the world, including Shamim Shwal, Caroline Handschin Moussir, Barrister Margaret Owen, Wendi Momen, Zarin Hansworth, Settla Harris, Hadia Sartaj, and Naila Altaf Kanynie.
The seminar focused on the horrific incidents of mass rape, sexual violence, and torture inflicted upon Kashmiri women in the IIOJK by Indian forces.
The speakers called for urgent global intervention, condemning the Indian government’s failure to hold perpetrators accountable and deliver justice to the victims.
The discussion also revisited the 1991 Kunan-Poshpora mass rape incident, during which 300 Indian soldiers assaulted women after removing men for interrogation.
Despite ongoing efforts for justice, the victims continue to await redress. The seminar criticized the Indian judiciary for its delays and alleged partiality towards the government, urging the international community to address the human rights violations in Kashmir.
