PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) Assembly has elected their respective speakers and deputy speakers, local media reported on Thursday. As per local media reports, Sunni Ittehad Council’s (SIC) candidate Babar Salim Swati was elected as the new speaker of the provincial assembly of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after collecting 89 votes. On the other hand, PPP’s Ehsanullah Miankhel claimed 17 votes. Swati was administered oath by the outgoing Speaker of the House Mushtaq Ghani.

Earlier, Balochistan’s political landscape has witnessed the uncontested election of Abdul Khaliq Achakzai as the Speaker of the provincial house today, local media reported.

As the deadline for the submission of nomination papers for the coveted slots of Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the Balochistan Assembly came to near, only two candidates emerged. This development, paved the way for Achakzai’s ascension to the speakership of the House.

Achakzai’s nomination went unchallenged, highlighting a remarkable consensus among the political parties within the assembly of Balochistan. The solitary submission of nomination papers by Abdul Khaliq Achakzai and Ghazala Gola, as confirmed by the Secretary of the Provincial Assembly, indicated a lack of competing contesters for the esteemed position.

Achakzai contested the 2024 general polls as an independent candidate from PB-51 Chaman.
