MADRID: Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has urged Israel to halt what he referred to as the “indiscriminate killing of innocent Palestinians” in Gaza, marking his most pointed criticism of Israel since the conflict erupted over a month ago.

Prime Minister Sanchez, a member of the Socialist party, reiterated his support for Israel’s response to the attack carried out by Hamas in October. However, he voiced concern over the current situation in Gaza, urging an end to actions that result in the indiscriminate loss of Palestinian lives.

“I stand with Israel in its response to the attack by Hamas. However, the indiscriminate killing of Palestinians in Gaza must end,” Sanchez stated, emphasizing the need for a cessation of hostilities and a move towards a more peaceful resolution.

Spanish PM Pledges Efforts for Recognition of Palestinian State

In a noteworthy announcement, the Spanish Prime Minister pledged that his new government would actively work both in Europe and Spain to garner recognition for the Palestinian state. This commitment aligns with a broader diplomatic effort to address the longstanding Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
