ROME: Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez called on the international community to cease arms sales to Israel following his meeting with Pope Francis at the Vatican on Friday.
“I believe it is urgent that, in light of the current situation in the Middle East, the international community stops exporting weapons to the government of Israel,” Sanchez stated to reporters. He emphasized the importance of not contributing to the escalation of violence and conflict in Gaza, the West Bank, and Lebanon.

Sanchez’s comments echo those of French President Emmanuel Macron, who has also urged countries to halt weapon deliveries to Israel, a stance that has sparked outrage from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
As one of the most vocal critics among European Union leaders regarding Israel’s war on Gaza, Sanchez described Israel’s recent military actions in Lebanon as an “invasion” and called for immediate international action.
