ISLAMABAD: Spanish Ambassador Jose A. de Ory held a meeting with Dr. Gohar Ejaz, the Caretaker Minister for Commerce and Industry in Islamabad, and discussed trade and investment relations.
During the meeting, Minister Ejaz expressed the popularity of football in Pakistan, with a particular interest in La Liga, and voiced support for renowned clubs such as Real Madrid and FC Barcelona.
He underscored the significance of Pakistan’s growing sports industry and highlighted the importance of exporting Pakistani-branded sports goods to Spain. Minister Ejaz also conveyed his appreciation for Spain’s support for EU GSP Plus.
The Spanish Ambassador emphasized the need for a shift in mindset to boost exports, drawing from Spain’s own successful experiences. He also highlighted Spain’s support for its businesses to expand internationally, particularly in South America, and suggested that Pakistan should adopt a similar policy to assist its businessmen in global expansion.
To facilitate trade, the Ambassador proposed providing Pakistan with a list of essential Spanish imports, allowing Pakistani businesses to effectively meet those demands.
Pakistan’s Interest in Renewable Energy and Trade
Minister Ejaz expressed Pakistan’s interest in collaborating with Spain to establish solar manufacturing facilities in Pakistan, taking into account Spain’s leadership in solar technology. Additionally, the Ambassador encouraged Pakistan to explore renewable energy opportunities, citing Spain’s expertise in wind power.
In a bid to strengthen bilateral trade and economic ties further, the Spanish Ambassador invited Minister Ejaz to lead a business delegation to Spain.
