South Korea Records 53,698 New Covid-19 Cases

SEOUL: South Korea reported 53,968 new COVID-19 cases as of midnight Thursday, totaling the number of infections as 26,837,840, the health officials said Friday. 

The daily number was down from 59,089 on the last day, but higher than 49, 418 a week earlier, the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency (KDVA) said.

Last week, the daily average number was new cases was 53, 667. In the newly recorded cases, thirty-nine are imported infections, reaching the total to 71,115. 

Pandemic Claims Total 30, 278 Lives in Country

The latest number of the critically infected patients stood at 453, up sixteen from the previous day. The pandemic claimed 55 more lives, bringing the death toll to 30, 278.

The latest number of infected people who were in critical condition stood at 453, up 16 from the previous day.

Fifty-five more deaths were confirmed from the pandemic, bringing the death toll to 30,278. –APP/ Xinhua
