ISLAMABAD: Cricket South Africa (CSA) confirmed that Rubin Hermann will replace Dewald Brevis for the remainder of the ongoing ODI series against Pakistan.
Hermann, a batter for the North West Dragons, has represented South Africa in six T20Is and has a strong List A record, having played 41 matches and scored 1,699 runs at an average of 49.97 and a strike rate of 86.02, including six centuries and as many fifties.
Brevis, who had been part of the squad, was ruled out of the ODI series due to a shoulder injury sustained during the third T20I between the two teams at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore last week.
Scans revealed a low-grade shoulder muscle strain, which led to his exclusion from the 50-over leg of the tour. CSA confirmed that Brevis will undergo rehabilitation with the Proteas medical team in Pakistan, preparing for the upcoming Test tour of India.
‘Baby AB’
Nicknamed ‘Baby AB’ for his resemblance to AB de Villiers, Brevis has featured in six ODIs, scoring 110 runs at an average of 22.00 and a strike rate of 159.42.
Pakistan leads the three-match series 1-0 after a hard-fought victory in the opening ODI at Iqbal Stadium, Faisalabad, on Tuesday. The next two fixtures will be played at the same venue, on Thursday and Saturday.
South Africa’s updated squad for the ODI series includes: Matthew Breetzke (captain), Corbin Bosch, Rubin Hermann, Nandre Burger, Gerald Coetzee, Quinton de Kock, Tony de Zorzi, Donovan Ferreira, Bjorn Fortuin, George Linde, Kwena Maphaka, Lungi Ngidi, Nqaba Peter, Lhuan-dre Pretorius, and Sinethemba Qeshile.
