WINDHOEK, Namibia: South Africa’s Under-19 side recorded one of the biggest victories in ICC Under-19 World Cup history on Monday, crushing Tanzania by 329 runs after posting a record 397 for five.
The Proteas Under-19 cricket team announced their arrival as serious title contenders in emphatic fashion, shattering records with a mammoth 397 for 5 against Tanzania and bundled them out on 68.
Batting records tumble
Electing to bat first, the Proteas unleashed a historic assault, posting a mammoth 397 for 5.
This total is the highest of the current tournament and a new all-time record for South Africa at the U-19 World Cup, surpassing their previous best of 359 set in 2012.
The innings was built on commanding centuries by captain Muhammed Bulbulia (108 off 108 balls) and Jason Rowles (125 not out off 101 balls).
A brutal late cameo from Paul James (46 off 18 balls) and a stunning 5-ball 16* from Lethabo Phahlamohlaka.
Bowlers seal dominant win
In reply, Tanzania’s innings never gained momentum against a disciplined and potent South African bowling attack. They were bundled out for just 68 in 32.2 overs.
The bowling effort was led by Bayanda Majola (2/6) and Jason Rowles (2/14), who complemented his century with a decisive spell.
The victory, achieved with 17.4 overs to spare, stands as one of the most dominant in the tournament’s history and immediately establishes South Africa as a formidable force in Group C.
Historic batting onslaught

From the outset, the young Proteas batters took command, relentlessly attacking the Tanzanian bowling attack.
The innings was a collective display of power and precision, with multiple batters contributing to the run-fest.
The score of 397 for 5 eclipses the previous highest total of this edition and, more significantly, breaks South Africa’s own U-19 World Cup record.
Long-standing record falls
The previous highest score by a South African U-19 side in a World Cup match was 359 for 6, a total they had posted against Namibia back in 2012.
That 14-year-old record was comprehensively dismantled in Windhoek, underlining the destructive potential of the current squad.
