OGOTA: Nicolas Petro, son of the Colombian President, has been arrested as part of a probe into money laundering, the local officials said on Saturday.

The country’s attorney general’s office also confirmed the development. Earlier, Petro had welcomed the probe when it began in March and has previously called allegations that he took money from drug sellers in exchange for including them in his father’s peace efforts groundless.
The officials also arrested the ex-wife of Nicolas’ Daysuris del Carmen Vasquez, who earlier told local media that two people accused of involvement with drug trafficking had given Nicolas money for his father’s political campaign, among other alleged acts of corruption.
Petro said on social media, that it was painful for one of his children to be arrested, but the attorney general’s office had all guarantees to proceed as per the law.
