ISLAMABAD: The two public sector companies, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) and Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) are expected to spend over Rs 113.8bn on the up-gradation of gas distribution and transmission system in their respective operational areas across the country during the fiscal year 2022-23.
Official document available with APP suggest that the gas companies have planned to invest Rs 77,484 million on distribution projects, Rs 27,669 million on transmission projects, and Rs 8,746 million on other projects. The total investment during the ongoing fiscal year is Rs 113,899 million.
The SNGPL has planned to lay 9,605 kilometer transmission and distribution pipelines, while SSGC 1,102 kilometer pipelines for smooth supply of gas to commercial, domestic and industrial consumers.
The available stats indicate that the country has an extensive gas network with 155,679kms distribution, more than 13,513kms transmission, and 41,231kms service gas pipelines to cater to the requirement of millions of consumers. The number of consumers has now crossed 10.7 million across the country.
At least three strategic projects are underway by the companies to supply gas to two Special Economic Zones and an industrial park in their respective areas so as to boost industrial production in the country.
SNGPL, SSGC projects
The Southern Gas Company is laying a pipeline to supply 10 Metric Million Cubic Feet per Day Re-gasified Liquefied Natural Gas (RLNG) to Bostan Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Balochistan. An amount of Rs 100 million has been allocated for the current fiscal year. A dedicated line to provide 13 Metric Million Cubic Feet per Day Re-gasified Liquefied Natural Gas to Bin Qasim Industrial Park in Karachi is under construction with Rs 74.71 million funds.
Similarly, the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) is carrying forward a project to supply 40 MMCFD gas to a Special Economic Zone in Faisalabad of Punjab province; Allama Iqbal Industrial City. — APP
