ISLAMABAD: The Society of Nepalese Doctors from Pakistan (SNDP) on Thursday strongly condemned the recent acts of violence targeting duty doctors in various regions of Nepal.

The SNDP in a statement on social media said it is disheartening to witness such aggression towards the healthcare professionals who are tirelessly working to save lives, especially during these challenging times.

The statement said the body completely understands the frustrations and concerns of the public regarding healthcare services and mismanagement. However, resorting to violent actions against doctors is not an acceptable solution.

The body said in instances where mismanagement or negligence occurs, it should be addressed through legal channels and due process, rather than individuals taking the law into their own hands.

It noted that doctors are not infallible and possess limitations in treating critically ill patients, particularly those in advanced stages of disease. Despite their unwavering dedication and efforts to provide the best possible care within their means, doctors cannot be equated to God with miraculous healing powers.

SNDP urges Nepalese authorities to implement appropriate laws

The SNDP urges the Nepalese authorities to implement and enforce appropriate laws that safeguard the rights and safety of medical professionals. Stringent legal measures should be in place to deter and penalize those who attack doctors or any medical staff without a thorough understanding of the circumstances.

It advocated for a legal framework that ensures individuals involved in attacks on medical personnel are held accountable, including “Jail without bail”. This will serve as a deterrent and protect doctors and medical staff, allowing them to perform their duties without fear or hindrance.

The SNDP said it is committed to promoting a culture of respect, understanding, and collaboration between the public and healthcare providers.
